Massachusetts man arrest by NH State Police following a 12-hour stand off in Madison.

MADISON, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire State Police say a Massachusetts man has been arrested in Madison on assault charges after a 12-hour standoff.

Police say 25-year-old Phillip Mugford of Revere, Mass., was arrested around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Police say he had barricaded himself at the home of an acquaintance in Madison Tuesday afternoon after police arrived to arrest him on charges of assaulting a woman the night before.

Police say he refused to come out.

The New Hampshire State Police SWAT team was called in and negotiated with him. Police say Mugford eventually surrendered and was taken into custody early Wednesday morning.

He's charged with felony second-degree assault, simple assault and criminal threatening as well as resisting arrest.
